I AM

Il Parco dei Camaldoli, percorrendo i suoi tortuosi sentieri, comunica la sensazione di trovarsi in un verde e fitto labirinto di piante e alberi. Ci si avviluppa tra i rami e si perde il contatto con la realtà cittadina caotica che circonda il parco. Ed è in questo ambiente che l’opera si genera: l’artista propone una corda appesa ad un ramo alla cui estremità ci saranno un cappio e due ali.

La corda è in prestito dal mondo dei pescatori che, come vuole la tradizione, utilizzano solo fibre vegetali. Le ali invece sono state fabbricate a mano dall’artista. I materiali utilizzati sono quelli che il Parco dei Camaldoli offre generosamente: foglie e rami. L’installazione i am/ io sono è di grande leggerezza, perfettamente in armonia con in luogo. Ma i simboli a cui alludono il cappio e le ali sconvolgono e creano nel visitatore un senso di spaesamento. Il bosco dei Camaldoli è stato e sarà teatro di una performance in cui l’artista penderà dalla corda vestita di bianco ma il suo corpo resterà come sospeso grazie alle ali. L’installazione è di forti contrasti: leggerezza delle ali e pesantezza del corpo, fragilità del ramo e spessore della corda. Ancora una volta Nicca Iovinella mette di fronte a qualcosa che ad una prima lettura non è né scontato né appartenente al senso comune.

Nelle installazioni di Nicca Iovinella, come in i am/ io sono c’è sempre uno scarto con la realtà, il mondo artistico ci catapulta in un universo immaginifico in cui fiabe, spesso dalla fine amara, ci accompagnano e ci illustrano una storia.

The project of the artist Nicca Iovinella, I am, will be inserted in the pathway from the point A to the point D (keeping in mind the map of Parco dei Camaldoli downloadable from the website Land Art) in the first curve after the slant of Parco dei Camaldoli. The installation’s aim is to be included in the surrounding environment and to respect the nature and the living animals. The Parco dei Camaldoli, through its curvy paths, gives the feeling of being in a green labyrinth of plants and trees. When you enter in this forest you loose contact with the city life. And in this environment the artwork come to life: the artist propose a rope hooked to a branch whose final parts will be a slip-knot and two wings.

The rope will be taken from the world of the fisher-man, traditionally these ropes are made only of vegetal fibre. The wings instead will be made by the artist. The materials used will be exclusively natural: branches and leaves founded in the Parco dei Camaldoli. Iovinella after collecting all the necessary things will proceed in putting together the skeleton of the wings. The final result will be a really light and flexible installation in perfect harmony with the environment. There are symbols that refer to the slip-knot and the wings. Those symbols will disturb the visitors.

The forest of the Camaldoli will be the stage of a performance where the artist will be hanging from the rope dressed in white but her body will remain suspended thanks to the wings. The installation has strong contrasts: the lightness of the wings and the heaviness of the body, the fragility of the branch and the thickness of the rope. Once again Iovinella gives us something that isn’t easily understandable and far from the common sense. In her installation there is always something out of the reality, her artistic world put us in dreaming world where a sort of fairy tales that bring us in a fantastic story.
